Simple Things–Making Mom Happy at 99+

Mom is 99–will be 100 on the 18th of December (the week before Christmas).

She’s doing well for her age, basically healthy, eating well, has some memory challenges and still looks forward to getting up in the morning.

I spend time with her every evening.  Almost a year ago now someone stole the engagement ring she was wearing.  It was an hierloom–originally belonging to her mother.  She missed it and was always looking for it.

She has since given me the two other wedding rings she used to wear with that wedding ring.

Mom lives in a memory-assisted Assisted Living unit that is part of a Continuous Care Retirement Community west of Chicago.  I picked-up some Cubic Zirconia rings to replace the stolen engagement ring.  Nope, those weren’t right.  Later I went to Walmart.com and found a set of rings with a Cubic Zirconia engagement ring very similar to the one that was stolen.  She’s still wearing that one.

She noticed another resident with a wide gold band on her finger and spoke with her about it two separate days–unusual for Mom.  Tonight she asked me to do her a favor (a rare event for her to ask).  She wanted a wide gold band.

I went back to Walmart.com and found another Cubic Zirconia wedding band that should be much wider than the ring she’s currently wearing.  I had them personalize the ring with Mom’s name and Dad’s name on the outside. (Makes it easier to spot if it “goes missing”, too.)

We’ll pick-up the ring from the local store on or around August 5th.  I hope she likes it.  It is a simple thing to keep her happy.

Connecting With Subscribers of JoelMonty.info

We have 774 subscribers and 3 administrators for JoelMonty.info.  Thanks to each and all of you who have registered.  I hope this post reaches you.

We were integrated with Aweber–a responder system that would normally let me know that each of you was added to the website.  Somehow that doesn’t seem to be happening.

Now that I know I have that many subscribers, I need to know what you want more of.  My posts in this blog have been largely “stream of consciousness”–what’s on my mind for any particular day.

I have the SEO attributes set for this post.  I have emails from people who registered, though, according to Aweber, I only have 67 people on mailing lists.  Very strange.  I haven’t been using Aweber effectively and I’ve had the service for more than two years.

Here’s what I can do.  I can make a sign-up link right here so that you can sign-on to an Aweber list for JoelMonty.info.  That way, if you want to, you’ll have an easy way to do it.

Why would you want to?  To get some emails from me about some things that may be of interest to you.  Let me know and send me feedback.  You can send me an email about this site at jnet-joelmontyinfo@usa.net

Forward 2 Back 3

Have you ever had to follow some directions–like learning dance steps–forward 2, back 3, side step 1, forward 2, reverse side step 3, etc.

I’m finding that to be the case with some of the activities I’m engaged in this week, building infrastructure to support my online business set-ups.  (The results are similar to the classic, “You can’t get there from here” quote when someone asks directions to some place.)

I have lots of tools to move very quickly–and still in circles.  A friend of mind just told me, “Contact me when you’ve done all you have to do.”  (I didn’t find the comment particularly helpful and it probably makes sense from my friend’s perspective.)

I did sign-up for an affiliate program today that I think will be helpful. It offers free services to help people with online emailing and communication.  I’ll share more about that (and a link) later.  That will be part of JoelMontyLoves.com.

If you know of anyone interested in exploring how to build an effective team for multi-level-marketing (MLM), have them check out the video in the previous post.  If anyone is actively looking to build such a team, follow this link for help in generating leads for team members.

Reflections on Internet Information Marketing

Yesterday was invested in setting-up a new blog site (actually a four-piece blog site), creating a product package for the site and a series of sales funnel for the site. Developing the products will take some time, too.

I was hoping to begin generating “instant sales” and that isn’t going to happen. Internet Information Marketing still seems to be the best way to generate significant income for the foreseeable future.

I had my first website on the Internet up about 1988. I was using it as a platform to sell my consulting services. I’ve been involved with the Internet and Information Marketing (“Infopreneurship”) since that time. I became the protege of a “guru” of information marketing in 2001. Through that connection I started working with a very successful team of internet information marketers in 2011 and used their knowledge and skill (and programs) to develop multiple blogging websites in 2011 and 2012. I stopped active working of those sites when I went back to teaching. This summer I picked things back up–getting all the website infrastructure up to date, then working on content.

At the same time, a new friend from LinkedIn shared with me the successes she and several of her friends have had with someone else’s system and products on the Internet. What I’ve been doing hasn’t worked to grow my income so far, so working with someone else’s successful system sounds good to me.

I’ve been involved in Network Marketing over the years–starting with Amway, then moving to a variety of other organizations. I never made any money with any of them.

One of the attractive things about the company my friend introduced me to is that they use Internet tools and systems to sell over the Internet. I don’t have to involve family and friends (again).

There is a significant “buy in” recommended (though nothing is required). To make powerful amounts of money quickly, a person needs to “buy in” to the products and to start using them to grow his or her business. That’s basically a very good idea. I’m going to have to use my existing resources to generate the capital I to make the “buy in” for the new company.

That gave me even more incentive to leverage my existing sites as income producers as well.

Abundance and Wealth–Instant Response

As you can tell, I was pretty frustrated yesterday when I wrote the post about things being ridiculous.

Today I received an email from a new friend, Brittney Poppano, who invited me to see a replay of a presentation she shared last night.  Her presentation put me in touch with a company that has a system for building an Internet Information Marketing business.  I’ve been involved with that since the 1980s, though haven’t made any money.

With this new organization, my entire financial situation can be turned around in less than a month, though it will take longer to build a good business.

I’m an Advanced Practitioner in the Law of Abundance-Wealth.  While my earlier post may not seem so, I’ve been working on myself for the past several months, replacing my dis-empowering habits of thought and action with empowering habits of thought and action.  This result is one of the indicators that things are working well.

This is Ridiculous!! Want to help?

This is ridiculous–and I’m not laughing!!  (See the YouTube video at this link.)

In 2001, after 9/11/2001, I made a decision to make a difference for kids in grades K-12.  I stopped being a full-time management consultant/organizational change consultant/instructional designer and became a classroom teacher, working with the English Language Learner population in public schools served in Illinois by the Kane County Regional Office of Education (ROE).

Prior to that time, while I was a performance coach for teachers in the Dade and Broward school systems in Florida while finishing my doctorate degree in Education from Florida International University in Miami, my primary focus was on working with adults.  I had been teaching thousands of adults (over 40 years) (I was a volunteer instructor and instructor-trainer for the American Red Cross in Health and Safety courses for 33 years.)  I was also a professional trainer and instructional designer in addition to being an organizational change management consultant.

I was aware of some of the challenges being experienced by K-12 schools when I went to get my doctorate and focused on adult education and human resource development because I saw there would be an ongoing need for adults to learn what they didn’t learn in school.  For my doctoral dissertation, working with teachers-in-training, I developed and tested a new theory of how we learn from experience.  I’ve used that learning since completing the doctorate in a variety of ways.

As everyone knows, the economy (and school budgets) started taking hits over the last several years.  In 2009, shortly after completing a post-doctoral Master of Arts in Teaching, I was laid off.  Since then I have been a substitute teacher because most schools can get two recent graduates for the salary the unions require for someone with a masters’ degree (districts don’t even have to pay for the doctorate or second masters).

Substitute teaching pays $12 per hour ($90 per day–with $78 showing up in the bank) or $45 for one-half day with less than that showing up in the bank.)  I love substitute teaching because I can make a difference for both students and teachers.

This summer I can’t find employment at the moment.  I can work with clients, do contract work at the local, state, and federal level, offer workshops on expanding memory, changing moods, Integrative Learning, and provide coaching for teachers, executives, organizations, and teams.  So far, no one is interested.

I’ve applied for lots of entry-level jobs and, when I made the mistake of telling the whole of my education, found myself not getting calls for interviews.  I was advised just to tell people I have an undergraduate degree–which I do.

I need to pay the rent and to set money aside for some bills and for the future.  I need to stay in the Chicagoland area because my Mom is 99 and I think it’s important to give her some quality time every evening to make sure she can eat and get her medicine and remember me tomorrow.

I have lots of websites which I have just upgraded, reducing some that produce no traffic.  These aren’t bringing in the money yet.

Yesterday I received an email from someone who wants to split a huge amount of money with me if I pretend to be someone’s long lost relative.  Yes, I need income right away–for next month’s rent, for example.  No, I don’t want to get involved with shady deals.

I’m writing this post to ask your your help–not with cash, with either clients or a job–at least for the summer.  Some of the ones I’ve applied for are “out of left field” and will still help pay the bills.

If you have information or a suggestion for me, please send me an email at jnet-help@usa.net

Teachers’ Coach Group

Why would teachers want a Teachers’ Coach?

I started coaching teachers in Miami, FL, in 1988 or so while I was finishing research for my doctoral dissertation at Florida International University.

More recently I have been involved with teaching in Illinois–six years as a bilingual (Spanish) teacher and five years as a substitute, focusing especially on the needs of elementary school teachers and students.

Teachers are being buried in new requirements–“Common Core,” improving student performance on standardized tests–new tests coming this year.

As part of my personal continuing education I was certified two years ago as a trainer in neurolinguistic programming (NLP).  Some of what I learned in that training has direct application in helping teachers deal with the new challenges they are experiencing in their classrooms.

I’ve started a Teacher’s Coach Group on Facebook (bit.ly/t-coach)

Keeping Websites Current–Content and Infrastructure!!

JoelMonty-com-Headder-2014-06-08

Whew!  Keeping websites current with both content and infrastructure is very time consuming. (The image above is from one of them.) I’m almost finished upgrading all of my websites.  I’m having a few challenges with some of my mobile sites and a few have problems with a new caching plugin that will make the sites work faster.

I’m way behind in content.  On some sites I use articles I found interesting from other people.  I need to be writing my own and can’t seem to make the time to do that.  I started a project like that today and that’s as far as I got, a start.

The overall purposes of my websites are to share information people will find to be of value, to get some people who want to be my clients or to purchase something that will monetize these sites (they really need to pay for themselves).  I also want to create a source of steady income that helps me live a “debt-free” lifestyle allowing me the freedom to take on projects that I enjoy and to be available for my family–my 99-year-old Mom at the moment.

I’ve been relying on these websites for Internet marketing and haven’t been doing enough with them for the marketing to actually happen.  That will be part of the next phase.

Several of my sites are tied to Facebook and I need to rework them to make them more attractive and useful.

Upgrading Communication Takes Time

I had not expected the project of upgrading the multiple websites of JoelMonty.net to take more than a day or two.  Instead, it’s taken the better part of a week and that’s just for the infrastructure.  I’m going to need to go into the content as well.

I have multiple websites and this year I used the number of users and comments on the sites as an indicator as to which ones I should hang on to and which ones I should let go of.

Keeping up with the communication itself is also a challenge.  I’ll need to have a better strategy and plan for that in this coming year.  I created many of these sites as part of a plan to monetize what I do over the Internet.  I need to revise my strategy and plan to accomplish that this year.

I’m almost up-to-date–until a plugin developer creates something new and different everyone must have…

“How can I help you?”

Last night I received an email from a new friend who has a role as a performance coach.  Her question to me was, “How can I help you?”

It was a good question.  I need to learn more about her and to reflect more on what kind of help I need.  Since I offer similar services for clients, I need to be thinking about how I can ask them for what kind of help they might need as well.

Today I was upgrading lots of web sites–adjusting code, etc.  I am a “heavy user” of websites without being a programmer.  The websites are to help me communicate, so I need to make them where people want to go there and communicate.

Sure, I need help with the code and things.  Later I’ll pay someone to help and, at the moment, I’m learning as I go so that I can explain what I want to someone else.

I also need help attracting paying clients.  While I’ve offered my services over the web, that’s not how clients have been finding me.  Today was the next to the last day of school for the K-12 school district where I’ve been substitute teaching (Kaneland School District).  I enjoy the work with the students and, beginning this summer, I want to do more with adults.

I started working with K-12 students after 9/11/2001.  My earlier background had been as an organizational development/change management consultant for more than 30 years, with a masters and a doctorate designed to help me help adults and organizations learn and change.  I did get a post-doctorate masters in teaching as part of Illinois certification process, though my real gifts lie in helping teachers develop new and more productive strategies to help their students learn.

I need help getting contracts to work with teachers–probably with the help of a grant writer.  In the past two years, in my own continuing education, I have become certified as an advanced hypnotist, an NLP (neurolinguistic programing) trainer, and additional specialty trainings focused on helping people achieve their goals.

I need to “monetize” what I know so that I have the financial resources to do the service work I also enjoy.  I need help with all of that.  Know anyone who can help me?  Even better, I’m looking for ways that we can help each other.
